Review
“Jarratt ensures a silken flow to the condensed storyline. Proof of his eloquent direction and film writing. Tightly edited, he doesn’t miss a heartbeat. “

“Audiences will laugh and cry at what emerges in this small Aussie tear jerker which can be described as a labour of love. The passion of everyone involved in this movie filters through each frame. Jarrett has written a script that consists of just the right amount of emotional intensity. Themes of substance abuse and the inadequate rights given to Down Syndrome people also resonate throughout.”

“The story of What About Sal? is all things heart-warming, saccharine-sweet, and unapologetically Australian. You can feel the love that was poured into the film and the passion that Jarratt has for the thematic and tonal expressions that follow Sal…
…Unbelievably funny and full of heart, it would be impossible for me not to indulge in absolute admiration for lead actor, Gerard O’Dwyer as Sal. O’Dwyer’s individuality and personality absolutely beam off the screen. Confidently taking centre stage throughout the entire picture, he delivers an excellent performance that is both heart-warming and heart-breaking.

“The acting ability of both John and Gerard was exceptional, as well as the rest of the cast. By the end of the film I don’t think there was a dry eye left in the house as everyone had formed such a bond for each of the characters…
The film is beautifully shot and showcases a lot of the hidden beauty of Sydney, Glebe and the surrounding areas….
If you have the opportunity to support this film I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.

“It is Jarratt's second foray into writing and directing, and his big-hearted compassion for his subject matter shines through in every aspect of this little Aussie gem. His direction coaxes terrific performances out of his actors - Kaarin Fairfax delivers a beautifully modulated performance as Gerard's Mum. She inhabits her character with a lovely natural authenticity and warmth. Her performance is emotionally charged, and each screen moment is imbued with a deep and abiding love for her child.”
